It's actually a tube not a bar, but air comes out when the engine is running and it fed in right below the air filter on the old setup, no idea what I'm supposed to do with it now? anyone?

If it's your bowl overflow. Snake it trough the engine going down away from anything hot.

Is it a breather? If so, just pick up a breather filter from your local auto parts store and put it in there.

Looks like it's coming out of the block not the carb...Says it's blowing air out, not sucking air in... Only thing I can figure is a breather, but I dunno either, just guessing.

Ya it's coming off the block. It's kinda hard to see in the pics, but there is some rubber coming out and a little clip that holds the tube on.

Crankcase vent? About the only thing going from block back to intake. Emissions crap.

So can I just unclip it or do I need to put a filter on it? Also does the lower unit on the 04 only have a lower oil plug? The owners manual online shows an upper and lower but its for an 08.

If you unclip it there over time you will get oily residue on your carb from what is venting out of the block. That's why mine is run out of the way. If you can get a filter to put on it try that.

I managed to find an owners manual for the engine and the part is listed as a breather tube. Is there anything wrong with just cutting it so it's only a few inches long and putting a filter on it?

Folks have removed the tube and added a filter to it like your talking about. Something similar to this one.
