Post Theft prevention for motor
What do you guys use for a locking mechanism on your motors to slow thieves down? I tried a search but nothing about theft prevention popped up.

we leave our go devils year around at the duck lease so what my dad did was welded an eye on each bolt on the motor that bolts it to the transome and put a lil piece ov chain with a lock that way they wont be able to turn the bolts ill take a pick of what it looks like we pulled one out to put a bigger motor

I have seen boat transoms sawzalled around where the motor bolts to get it. Sadly those sorts of things only deter the lazy theivin bastards. I have been tryin to think of somethin also, as I plan on keepin my boat tied up out back in the water slightly out of my view from the house.

all a lock does is keep an honest man honest. if a crook wants it bad enough. he is going to take it no matter what you have. i would go with the insurance route

I just run a Mudbuddy. In the deep south Louisiana even the thieves want a GTR or PD, so I am all good.

Put a Honda sticker on it. Starting Sept 1 thieves are only going to be stealing American made products to help boost the economy.

Post Re: Theft prevention for motor
2 nights ago A buddy of mine woke at 3:20am to find a guy hooking up to his 27 Contender using a little truck. He yelled the guy hopped in and tried to haul ass. Buddy ran to his truck in his boxers (while wife called 911). It had just rained so he followed the bilge trail. He hit the streets and saw reds and blues out of his periphery. The thief tried to run and missed a turn. The boat came unhitched and kept going until it went through a ditch. Trailer is f'ed up and a once spotless boat has quite a bit of gel coat and fiberglass damage. The thief took off on foot and was apprehended by 6:00am. Some cuban out of Miami stealing the boat for the human smuggling industry. If you have a boat with Yamaha's in Florida or Bahamas it is a target.

I am thinking about welding a piece of between the bolts. That way I can cut it off if I ever need to take the motor off.

There is nothing you can do that a sawzall and a pair of bolt cutters cannot undo.

Just stating the truth, I'd get insurance, or find a better place to live.

If you use thru hardened chain they would go through 50 blades before they got through it, unlike case hardened chain. You gotta use a torch to cut that chit.

Just chain about a hundred and fifty lb rott to it. If you keep him a lil hungry, that probably wouldn't hurt. I can tell you that my ass wouldn't be getting close to it.

http://www.finditnowusa.com put one in your boat and the second it detects motion, it will send you a text message and alert you to it's position. Only then will a 12ga really be useful because you can have all the guns in the world, that if you don't catch them in the act, they're useless.

You could also use a Garmin GTU10 but it'll only work if they steal the whole boat.

Fukk it-

Get a steel Conex Box (the containers used for freight), back your boat in there, put a 10' chain link fence w/ barbed wire all the way around, a very visible camera on a street light post on every corner, buy 2 Rottweilers to put in the fence, and hire a security guard to watch it.

I'll keep paying my $350 a year insurance premium. And if someone wants it more than I do, I get to design and order a new one!
