I have a 2011 36PD 17 x 54 with center console. I haven't gone over 27 mph and the last bit of throttle doesn't help increase speed (that's with no load). I would love to run 32 with a load and I'm willing to spend some money but I would like to stay away from changing the internals.I have just ordered a new QT muffler and plan on getting a set of Iron Mountain Heads . What kind of speed increase will that get me ?? Should I get a carb instead of heads ? If I did all three what kind of increase will I see. You won't see 32 loaded with anything short of a hand gernade of a motor with full internals.

32 empty is pushing it without internals

So what can I expect with Iron Mountain heads and a QT muffler?

I have the same boat, actually just pulled the console out. I shaved my heads, minor porting and stainless valves. I have a little more compression over what iron mountain heads will give you. I have a marshmellow muffler also....

Basically the same as what you will have and i get 30mph in deep water touching the revlimiter. 4350! i can still get 25mph with 4 grown men gone frogging in deepwater. My normal hunting load i would get about 26-27mph average in deep water.

The heads make a good bit of difference i power due to the factory valves leaking so bad!!

i was running 28 today in the ICY with my wife an 12yr old girl and icechest turing 4150-4200.

also,,,before mods my speeds were about the same as yours.

Prodrives are a little slower due to drive angle is steeper then the others, and the gear ratio allows you to turn a bigger prop which is a little slower then smaller prop with more pitch.

Define "load"

I would define load as 2 adults and a child , dog , decoys , guns and gear ,so about 750 lbs not including gas.

heads, exhaust, and carb are a real nice combo. I have this combo on a 16-44 tiller handle and lookin at 31 and bumping 32 with me and the dog. 29 with 3 folks and a cooler. This is the way I would go, even if I had it to do over again.

If you gonna go for it and our capable of it, add in a cam with the heads and exhaust. Heck if I was you I'd do the carb to if you trying to get some speeds

Do you want load carrying speed or just run by your self speed, motor can be set up all kinds of ways

ive got the same setup with setx heads, marshmellow exhaust, mikuni carb and high rev coils. im gettin 28 loaded down and jumps on plane quick, but 32 ain't gonna happen. hittin 30-31 empty. give cody at setx a call he will fix u up.

I would love to run 32 with a load but I would settle for touching 30 every now and then. I was running 22mph with 850lbs extra last duck season and it was too damn slow. There is such a big difference in 8mph, enough to shell out big bucks to get it. I guess that puts me in good company. Getting better response from the throttle and faster acceleration will make it all worth it....along with the speed. I have decided to get the Q muffler, single carb and have the heads worked. Thanks to everyone. I will post with the details.

I can tell you the load you plan on runnig is pretty much what i run, 2 adults, 1 kid, 1 big as lab and all hunting shit and i would get bout 25mph with that load in deep water. Never clocked it in shallow...i assume it would pick up 1-2 in shallow.

The heads make a huge difference with the load! You will not gain much speed empty with just heads and exhaust. Maybe 1mph, but the load carrying wont drop off as much plus you will notice a big difference in torque...

as for the exhaust, i defenatly recomend somethign different then stock cause i broke my marshmellow and put the factory back on after the head work and could tell it was sluggish....

I did my heads myself. Had a local machine shop shave them, and i polished them up and installed the stainless valves lapped them, and shimmed them! Defenatly needed on these engines as i could see daylight between the fatory vavles and seats....

I am runnig about 185psi compression over fatory 130=140...

Turbo drives old 1754 pd with a stage I 32 ran 32-33 mph.

i touch 30mph with heads and exhuast....

so i would think you need at least a cam or carb to cross 30mph..
