 35hp problem
I was running today around 4100-4150 rpms and the engine made a pop noise but didn't lose any power. I stopped to see and in neutral it seemed like it had a different kind of vibration. Any ideas?

 Re: 35hp problem
Well according to Robin, if it would be a GoDevil you could rule out the clutch and the transmission.

 35hp problem
I don't think it was a clutch or transmission. Nothing's slipped

 35hp problem
You would lose power if you threw a pushrod though. Right?

 Re: 35hp problem
^^^FAIL!!!^^^ Talkin push rods, not connecting rods Yeah, Owen, it would run like shit if he threw a push rod. I missed where he said he didn't lose power, was focused on the vibration.

 Re: 35hp problem
Could it have been a backfire and you just noticed more vibration because you were paying closer attention to it?

 Re: 35hp problem
Plugs may be in the beginning stage of fouling, pull them and check em. Last time mine popped i had to limp on one cylinder to a hunting hole, come to find out i blew a head gasket. Not your problem cause you would have noticed that.

 Re: 35hp problem
You mean helpful like suggesting push rods without any power loss? Or maybe a blown head gasket that obviously isn't the problem either?
I'll keep that in mind.

 Re: 35hp problem
Does it idle smooth still? If the idle is rough now, check your intake gasket. It could have ripped and now causing an air leak.

 Re: 35hp problem
Do you have a rev box on it? Could've just been a hiccup in the box, causing a backfire like was mentioned earlier.

No rev limiter. And it does idle smooth. I think im gonna pull the valve covers off and take a look at the rocker arms

It depends where the pistons are at. Do you know how to set your valves?

Yes they will be loose when that particular valve is in its seat.

 Re: 35hp problem
yup
If you took those three long bolt couplings out and left them out, would it hurt anything?

 35hp problem
How does that happen? Lol. Should I stress about finding the rod that broke off. Could this possibly be the reason I saw sparks as well?

That metal screen was takin off when I had work done to the engine. Could this have possibly been the reason I saw the sparks out of the side?

Yeah and it sparked for a little while then made a noise like it threw something around in there then it never sparked again. I have the fan cover with my oil cooler on it I just don't have that other little cover inside the fan cover
