Just put a 13 hp lt on a 1542 riveted Jon. The longtail kit is a Thailand kit. The motor is a Honda electric start. The props they gave me are aluminum. Should this scare me? I am in Ohio and i am going threw mud and lilies with no stumps. I am going to test it out on Tuesday. What are the most common problems that happen?should I bring an extra shaft? I am expecting you guys to break out your crystal ball. Any info would be great our teal season starts in a few weeks. Thanks

I have enought toolsin my boat to tear the engine down, pull props, prop shaft. Electrical wire, and connectors kit. Heck just bout anything you can think of put it in there cause you'll never know when it'll come in handy

The problem I have up here is that in 25 years of playing in the swamp I have never seen or heard of anybody with a mud motor. It would be ackward to ask a guy that is rowing passed me for a tow

Get you a stainless prop!
Bring enough tools to work on what YOU are capable of fixing on the water.

I bring a multi-tool, tape, some electrical wire, a spare spark plug, and all the wrenches/sockets to tear the motor down to the point of anything I can repair out there. ( Throw a push rod, carb problems, ignition issues, stuff like that)

x100 on the stainless prop, i also keep my older prop and an extra prop nut in the boat just incase.

agreed on the stainless prop. and keep your aluminum prop in boat as a backup. monkey wrench, cresent wrench, small socket set, and you wouldnt believe the things you can accomplish with a multi-tool. only time i dont have my multi-tool is when i shower. but it aint far!

Bring rope small enough to splice to your pull start cord. I almost learned that the hard way but some decoy cord got me enough pull to get her started after the 30 year old pull cord snapped.

Extra prop and prop nut are good ideas to have. I carry them as well.

Multi tools are fantastic. Get yourself a good gerber or something similair and you'll be amazed at what you can do when required.

I have one of the 'spot' gps locator units. It's a good piece of mind to have with you. If you're not familiar with it, it's a unit that you pre program help messages into it and it uses satellites to send them if you're in an emergency.

JB Weld and Silicone don't leave the house with out no more.

Couple of fuel clamps and a hose splice is worth millions if your fuel line cracks or get's punctured.

also for a riveted jon a block of bees wax is a good idea. if you pop a rivet the wax will fill the hole and keep you going, plus when you are ready to make a real fix, it will melt right out. Thanks to Stu Alaska for that awsome tip.

I use that putty in a roll that's two colors that you break off a chunks of and mash until it' s mixed. A pinch on each side of the leak. It hardens in about ten minutes and is a permanent repair-it ain't coming off! I also have some rescue tape. Good shit. It's like electrical tape but there's no adhesive. It sticks to itself so it's not affected by water, dirt, or oil like electrical tape. They say you can fix a leaky fuel line or a broken drive belt with it, but I think that's pushing it.

when i use to bury power, they used that black so called tape all the time. that shit is awesome! also on the jb weld epoxy/putty. get hte water stuff. i have used it to fill in dents on my hull. i have had rocks scrape over that stuff and it doesnt come off. not too shabby!!
