Can't go wrong with a bulb
What if the fuel pump fails?

 Re: copperhead fuel hookup?
Yes, you want the primer bulb, but you will only want to use it once when you first connect it to the gas tank. Do not keep pumping it like an outboard trying to get the primer bulb hard or you will end up with gas coming out of the carbs. I initially made the mistake of using some heavy duty fuel line for a 115 outboard built-in fuel tank that was too large for the connection and did not seal properly which ends up starving the engine for gas. If you just use a regular Mercury (or other oem line) and pull off the connector on one end, it works fine.
Although it is doable, I personally think you are pushing the limit with a 12 on a 1642. That would probably be a perfect boat for the 18. Hope it works well for you though.

16/42 weldbilt with 2 guys 2 batteries a gun box and 6 gallon fuel ran 17 steady and hit 18 a couple times...needs a lil fine tuning more and i think itll hit 20..ran through some bad thick stuff and never checked up...awesome motors and very well built.... it surprised the crap outta me
