Post hairline crack
I got some oil creaping out of the gasket around the filter so I was trying to pin point exactly where and I notice what appears to be a hairline crack runing horizontaly up to the oil filter I seem to remember reading on here that someones else did this more than once. I'm aware thats not great and it will probably get worse but until it bust open its not realy a big deal aint it? I got stage two mods and run about 44-4600 rpms depending on conditions yall think its from vibs or heat? Or the fact that my motor has been opened up about ten times in the past 4 months?

Anytime you have an oil like you should be concerned. It can go from a littles oil leak to locked up motor while running to the blind in the dark.

Thought mine was a crack, too, but upon closer inspection looks more like a casting crease/ridge.

Briggs really need to improve on the product but I don't think they expected people to alter them to push the stage 2 power levels.
I think they are missing the boat not developing a another motor for this application.

If it's the oil filter housing leaking, it's an oring. Just take filter off pull bolt out and change it. 10 min job if that..

^^ bingo, they can blow out and you will loose all of your oil very quickly, if this happens at dark hrs you will never see it and it could be to late.

U can buy a short block. U sling a rod u could wipe out ur cam, possibly wreck heads if piston hits. U would mess up $2000 in mods

The rod threw from motor locking up from no oil or the gasket leaking oil?

Verify it's the crack leaking and not filter housing. The filter housing can be changed if that's leaking. if it is the block u have buy new block.

If u run the motor out of oil when crack gets bad which will happen if it's the block and will drain oil in less than 5 seconds the rod is usually first to go.

Ima get some pictures tomorrow the oil seems to be leaking from the vertical gasket that connects to the pan by the shaft no sure on the terminology the oil isn't coming from filter or the crack if it is a crack. Does it help to tighten down on the bolts or will I need to pull it apart and change gasket?

So ur crankcase is leaking? If its cracked and oil leaking out it, change crankcase cover. It's just gasket and isn't leaking back retorque bolts to 17ft-lbs and check/monitor oil level. When begins leaking bad or have time change gasket.

The gasket Im talking about is the red line and I drew the region that its leaking the bolts I circled also seem to have oil resdue almost like its leaking through maybe my oil is getting to hot and very thin? the "crack" would be on the right side of the gasket.

The red line is normal follow my post before one up. If the crack runs from there to filter and is leaking oil u need a new block

ya its so tiny hopefully it will be fine i guess all i can do is watch it. my motor only has 80 hrs on it and only 15 with the mods so if it blows I will definetly not be putting stage 2 back on because im sure thats what caused the crack and I will have to replace the block either way so ima run with it. hopefully its casting ridge like dgruidy said I'ma look closer and say a few prayers hah.

How many hours you got on yours with the crack and has it got any worse?

Spray it with degreaser to clean it good. Then run it and check it every so often to see if you can pin point it.

Flex seal. It will make a screen door into a boat surely it will seal a leaking case gasket

Nature of the beast. Briggs sucks for this application. These motors weren't made to do the things we do with them.

I tightened those two bolts you referenced above and this stopped my gasket from leaking there.

Go to napa and buy a liquid dye penetrant testing kit. It's easy to use and you will know for sure if it's a crack or if it's just a casting mark. Generally if it's a crack it will pour oil and not just seep.

Even with the low oil sensor, when it gets that low it can cause damage.
