Post Pvt 493f cam problems
In the process of a stage 1 put the cam in the other night every thing went fine torqued the case bolts 90in. Pounds in the proper sequence. Sat down to drink a beer maybe 5 to 10 min after and here a ping sound from the motor. Really had me worried but retired for the night cause the beer was tasting to good. This morning I noticed that I couldn't turn the motor over by hand so decided to tear it down again and this is what I found .

Looks like improper tooth alighnment with the governor gear, but I could be wrong.

^^ this,

You can see the governor gear marks on the cam. Man that sucks! Also the case bolt torque specs should be 200 in. the oil pump to case cover is 90.

Not saying y'all are wrong but the reason the marks are there is the first time I slid it on it was off so I adjusted it then slid it back on . I just looked at the gov gear there isn't even a mark on it . Wouldn't it have been hard to bolt up if it wasn't aligned right? Don't remember having any trouble . Thanks for the clarification on the torque specs .

Also since I mistakenly torqued them to only 90in. Pounds . Would that have been enough pressure to crack the cam like that ?

Did you have to bump the cover around to get it to line up or go on? It doesn't take much pressure to crack that cast.

From what I remember it went on fairly easy . But I'm leaning towards what y'all are saying . I don't see any thing else that could have happened . Unless it was already cracked and I didn't see it.

The only thing I can think of is something didn't line up right when putting the cover on. But then again u wouldn't of thought the cover would have went all the way on without forcing it.

The only thing on the # 1 cylinder side the cam gear that could have caused a binding issue would be the governor gear. if you look at the cams breaking point and split the difference again it puts at 7:30 -8 o-clock the center at the govern gear.

You can change the title if you edit the first post, but it ain't no big deal. It doesn't help you solve your problem either way.

Some of Al's blanks as of recently were missed marked, this is the reason for the other timing mark and the tag explaining what timing mark to use.
