Wonder why they just wouldn't use a bowfishing rig? Its legal to take them with a bow in Arkansas, may have to try it.

We had a particuler place where they were real skittish and would lay on the surface in open water (not on hydrilla) No way to get close enough for a gig, really too far for a fish arrow so... light weight bow slinging aluminum arrows 2.5" longer, field point, rubber stopper, closed cell foam, and a home made barb. If you miss, the arrow floats back up. If you hit, the frog stays on the arrow.

The best part about it (to me) is, if you have a friend and yall split up walking around a pond or something, you know every time they get one. Sounds like you hit a goat in the gut with a 2x4  Can't help but laugh
